The mission of Susan’s school assembly series is to expose children to the beauty of classical music by presenting it in an engaging, appealing manner and to create in children the desire to participate in the musical arts, whether as a performer or audience member.
The school assembly series features Susan and an accompanist in a performance of music from a variety of stylistic periods and representing a wide range of musical expression. The music is chosen and presented in a way that is appealing to the young child. Between pieces, Susan discusses the music and demonstrates musical concepts to listen for. Audience participation is encouraged by inviting students to offer responses to the music. Concert etiquette is explained clearly which allows everyone, students and teachers, to be able to relax and enjoy the music.
Staging/Equipment requirements: A tuned piano.
